As a soloist with the St. Florian Boys’ Choir, Alois Mühlbacher once enchanted the audience with his clear, bell-like voice. The 28-year-old from Hinterstoder has long since made the leap to becoming an internationally known countertenor. He recently completed concerts in Paris, Los Angeles, Madrid, London and appeared at the Linz State Theater (Handel opera “Rinaldo”), and next year Mühlbacher will make his debut at the Scala in Milan.
In between, the much-in-demand person started a project close to his heart together with his musical companion and mentor Franz Farnberger. The Pallidor ensemble, founded by the duo, is dedicated entirely to early music on historical instruments in general and to the cantatas of Johann Sebastian Bach in particular.
On November 10th, 7:30 p.m., the ensemble – musically accompanied by musicians such as concertmaster Nina Pohn (baroque violin), Peter Trefflinger (cello), Hubert Hoffmann (lute) and Erich Traxler (organ) – will give its founding concert in the Minoritenkirche in Linz.
At the center of this musical baptism of fire are, among other things, the virtuoso “Nisi Dominus” by Antonio Vivaldi and the famous cantata “Vergnügte Ruh, meine Seelenlust” by Johann Sebastian Bach. “This music can do something very special to you. You feel cleansed,” says Alois Mühlbacher, explaining his inspiration from “Early Music”.
In August, the Ensemble Pallidor (the German poet Georg Christian Lehms wrote numerous Bach cantatas under this pseudonym) recorded a CD in the Kurhauskirche Schärding. The recording will be released early next year.
