Comedian legend Loriot would have been 100 years old on November 12th. Today, November 6th, ARD is holding a theme day in his honor.
Even though Loriot (1923-2011) is unfortunately no longer among the living, his legendary sayings such as “There used to be more tinsel” or “My name is Lohse, I shop here” live on as an integral part of the German vocabulary. In order to create a television memorial to the creator of these language icons, Das Erste is dedicating an extensive theme day to him today, November 6th.
This already started in the “Morgenmagazin” with a piece about Loriot. From 12:00 p.m. the “ARD-Buffet” will focus on Loriot, and at 5:15 p.m. “Brisant” will devote an article to his 100th birthday. Moderator Kai Pflaume (56) also doesn’t miss the opportunity to ask the comedian a birthday question in his trivia quiz “Who knows something like that” (6:00 p.m.). After Pflaume’s quiz show, a five-minute “Loriot before eight” will shed light on Vicco von Bülow’s quirky relationship with animals at 7:45 p.m.
Film documentary “Loriot 100” highlight of the theme day
The absolute highlight of this jam-packed themed day is the documentary “Loriot 100” (8:15 p.m.), produced by André Schäfer (57), in which prominent Loriot admirers such as Hape Kerkeling (58), Helge Schneider (68), Olli Dittrich ( 66), Sarah Bosetti (39) and Oliver Kalkofe (58) remember the humorist, born in 1923 as Bernhard-Viktor “Vicco” Christoph-Carl von Bülow. Das Erste will then broadcast Loriot’s legendary film “Pappa ante Portas” from 1991 at 9:45 p.m.
Of course, Germany’s cult comedian will also be paid homage in detail on his 100th birthday on November 12th. In this Sunday’s afternoon program, Loriot’s best sketches will be shown from 1:20 p.m. and then his feature film “Ödipussi” from 2:55 p.m.
Sketch and cartoon classics in the ARD media library
A large number of Loriot’s best-known works have been available in the station’s media library since November 4th. In addition to his feature films and iconic sketch and cartoon classics, ARD’s legendary Loriot birthday shows from the past decades can also be viewed there until November 18th.
