It is the largest visit by a Norwegian royal in many years: Crown Prince Haakon is on a trip to Germany. Stops include Munich, Hamburg and Berlin, where the heir to the throne addresses the important issues of our time.
His Royal Highness stands on platform 4 at Dammtor train station in Hamburg and waits patiently, surrounded by his delegation, photographed and filmed by the press. For Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, his visit ends in the Hanseatic city. Now he is supposed to go to Berlin on the normal ICE train – but it is delayed. But well, it’s only five minutes and Deutsche Bahn’s punctuality would also be surprising.
It wasn’t that long ago that another high-ranking royal visited Germany: the British King Charles III traveled to Germany at the end of March. to Berlin, Brandenburg and Hamburg. Now Crown Prince Haakon is a guest in Germany – and also radiates royal splendor, even on platform 4. It is one of the highest royal visits from Norway in a long time.
The evening before, in the cool Hamburg weather, a small group of royal fans stood in front of the Hamburg town hall and waited for the crown prince. Among them is Kerstin Lehmkuhl, who she says has even shaken Haakon’s hand. “He is a likeable and modern heir to the throne.”
Samet and Dennis are also waiting in front of the town hall. Samet says that he was already there when King Charles visited. In the short term they decided to follow Haakon’s visit. “Haakon is likeable. And the crown prince couple are a great couple,” says Dennis.
