As reported by the specialized site Variety, the giant with the red N announced the news during a promotional cycle at its Geeked Week event, in which it said that “Terminator: The Anime Series” -its tentative title- will maintain the timeline in which in 1997 the artificial intelligence Skynet became conscious and caused the rise of the machines, unleashing a war with humanity that continues to this day.

What the Terminator anime series will be about
In this adaptation, a soldier is sent to that pivotal year in this narrative to protect a key figure for the fate of the survivors: this is the scientist Malcolm Lee, who despite his moral conflicts works to launch a new system designed that compete with the imminent attack by Skynet and, in line with the proposal of the saga, also becomes the target of a murderer from the future who will forever alter his life and that of his descendants.
The series will be directed by the animator Masashi Kudo (“Naruto”, “Bleach”) and with the director Matt Tomlinknown for his work in films such as “Project Power” (2020) and “Mother/Android” (2021), in the roles of showrunner, screenwriter and executive producer.
“Everyone who knows my work knows that I believe in taking risks and aiming for the heart. I feel very honored to have this opportunity to approach ‘Terminator’ in a way that breaks with conventions, subverts expectations and has true courage,” he said. Tomlin speaking to the press about his plans for the anime.
The animated series will be the first of its kind to be part of the “Terminator” franchise, created by James Cameron with the release of the first film of the same name in 1984, centered on a cyborg (Arnold Schwarzenegger) who is sent back in time to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), the eventual mother of humanity’s future leader in the fight against the machines.
Transformed since then into an unavoidable part of pop culture and the science fiction genre, the saga that developed over time already has six feature films, a television series, novels, comics and video games.
