But who is the man who only became king at the age of 73?

Charles was born on November 14, 1948 at 9:14 p.m. at Buckingham Palace.
In 1952, when his mother ascended the throne at the age of three, he became heir to the throne and received the title Duke of Cornwall.
Charles completed his academic career at traditional private schools and boarding schools.
During his time at the University of Wales he becomes the first Prince of Wales to learn Welsh since the Middle Ages.
In 1970 he became the first heir to the British throne to receive a degree – a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Cambridge.
This was followed by military training in the Royal Navy and in 1975 he was awarded a Master of Arts.
In 1981, Charles married Diana Spencer in full view of the world.
Around a year later, their first son William was born – his younger brother Harry followed in 1984.
In 1988, the heir to the British throne narrowly escaped death in an avalanche accident during a skiing holiday in Switzerland – his friend Major Hugh Lindsay was killed.
At the end of the 1980s, Charles and Diana’s marriage was considered to be broken after infidelities on both sides.
In 1992, the couple officially announced their separation. A public dispute over severance pay conditions follows. Charles and Diana divorced on August 28, 1996.
Around a year later, Diana, the “Princess of Hearts”, dies after a traffic accident in Paris.
From 1999, Charles is increasingly seen with his former lover Camilla. In 2003 she moved to Clarence House with him. Two years later, the civil wedding followed in Windsor Town Hall.
With the death of Elizabeth II, Charles will become King of the United Kingdom on September 8, 2022 after 70 years as heir to the throne.
