A discussion has broken out on social networks as to whether there might be a new zodiac sign: Ophiuchus. For many people, this would change their previous zodiac sign.
There is currently a discussion on social networks about whether there should be a 13th zodiac sign. Videos on this topic have been published on TikTok for a few days: users “inform” their followers about the supposedly new zodiac sign. However, the discussion is not new. This has been debated in astrology for years.
The “Welt” published an article in 2011 in which Parke Kunkle, Professor of Astronomy, claimed that people believe in the wrong horoscopes. He pointed out that in addition to the previous zodiac signs Aquarius, Capricorn, Aries, Pisces, Taurus, Leo, Cancer, Gemini, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio and Sagittarius, according to astronomers there is another constellation: Ophiuchus.
New zodiac sign: discussion about Ophiuchus
The constellation “Serpent Bearer”, which is called “Ophiuchus” in Latin, was named after the Greek god of medicine, Asclepius, and is reminiscent of the staff with the snake that many people know from medicine. The additional constellation, which looks like a crooked house in the night sky, is said to be above the constellations Scorpio and Sagittarius and would therefore be in a possible further order between these two zodiac signs.
Because everyone’s birthday is on a fixed day of the year and this also determines their zodiac sign, Ophiuchus could change the previous order. The result: A lot of people would then have a different zodiac sign than before.
The order would be as follows:
- Aquarius: February 16th – March 11th
- Pisces: March 12th – April 18th
- Aries: April 19th – May 13th
- Taurus: May 14th – June 19th
- Gemini: June 20 – July 20
- Cancer: July 21st – August 9th
- Leo: August 10th – September 15th
- Virgo: September 16th – October 30th
- Libra: October 31st – November 22nd
- Scorpio: November 23rd – November 29th
- Ophiuchus: November 30th – December 17th
- Sagittarius: December 18th – January 18th
- Capricorn: January 19th – February 15th
However, there is no consensus on whether the order of the zodiac signs needs to be updated, and it is unclear whether there ever will be. Astrology is not considered a natural science – so it is up to each star believer to decide which order is right for them.
