Frauke Ludowig turns 60: “For me, age is always a question of attitude”

2024 has just begun, but for Frauke Ludowig (59) the first highlight is already coming up. The popular presenter celebrates her 60th birthday on January 10th. “I feel like I’m in the best time of my life right now,” enthuses the mother of two on the sidelines of a L’Oréal Paris campaign. Together with her daughter Nele (20), she is in front of the camera for the new haircare series “Elvital Hydra Hyaluronic”.

The mother-daughter team is now a well-rehearsed team in front of the camera and can also be seen together more and more often on the red carpet. When it comes to styling, the two also tick the same way. “We have very similar taste in clothes and always borrow something from each other. I absolutely love that,” says the 20-year-old happily and reveals the important tip her mom gave her.

Dear Frauke, two milestone anniversaries await you in 2024: your 60th birthday on January 10th and 30 years of “Exclusiv” on May 2nd. Are there any plans for the celebrations yet?

Frauke Ludowig: I celebrate the festivals as they come. Of course also birthdays and anniversaries. There is even a third anniversary. My dad turns 90 the day after me and we celebrate with the whole family. The 30th anniversary for “Exclusiv” will also be a huge celebration, both for the viewers and the colleagues.

For some, 60 is just a number, for others age bothers them. How do you deal with getting older?

Ludowig: I feel like I’m in the best time of my life right now. Above all, I feel in top shape, I have a great job and a great family. There are so many new projects coming up in the new year, things couldn’t be better. Age is always a question of attitude for me, I’m looking forward to my 70th birthday!

What goes through your mind when you see pictures and recordings from your early career, when you still had curly brunette hair?

Ludowig: Of course it’s always funny in retrospect. This is certainly the case for everyone who privately browses through their photo album. Every fashion in its time, there is nothing to be ashamed of. I can only laugh at some outfits today.

Dear Nele, what do you think of your mother’s early style?

Ludowig: I always thought Mom’s style was cool, whether then or now. Above all, we have very similar taste in clothes and always borrow something from each other. I absolutely love that.

Frauke, you can’t tell that you’re almost 60 years old. What is your anti-aging secret?

Ludowig: I can still laugh at the dirtiest jokes and have fun in life. Of course, skin and hair care, nutrition and exercise are also included. The most important thing for me, however, is to face each day with humility that we are allowed to be on earth. But it is also important to remain courageous. In 2022 I took another risk and founded my own cosmetics company “pur lu by frauke ludowig”.

You will be regularly made up and styled in front of the camera. Do you regularly give your skin and hair a break?

Ludwig: Absolutely. Whenever I’m not in front of the camera or on vacation, I just walk around without makeup. By the way, my family loves me that way too. Care routines have become an integral part of my life. The day usually starts with washing my hair, but I’ve switched to the “Elvital Hydra Hyaluronic” range for a while now. In the evening I treat myself to my face mask for regeneration at night.

What’s the most important beauty tip you’ve ever received?

Ludowig: Always take off your make-up, no matter when you go to bed or how long you were at the party in the evening. That’s the most important! And always wear sunscreen during the day.

Nele, you will celebrate your 21st birthday next year. What plans have you made for the next few years?

Nele: I don’t have any firm plans yet. In any case, finish your studies first. Continue to learn a lot, try things out and take as much with me as I can.

Would you like to be in your 20s again, Frauke?

Ludowig: My daughters are 20 and 18, it’s a great age, but I’m happy about the year of life I’m in. But I also really enjoy being a mother to daughters of this age.

What is the most important advice your mother gave you, Nele?

Nele: Mom always gives my sister and me good advice, but I think the most important one that she always gives me is “be yourself” and don’t pretend to be for others, you are good the way you are!
