Claudia Schiffer (53) loves her cat Chip more than anything – and also likes to take her with her to appointments. On Wednesday she brought the animal to the world premiere of the new spy thriller “Argylle.” The film was directed by her husband Matthew Vaughn (52) and Chip plays a role. But Schiffer received criticism for her appearance on the red carpet.

As the model walked the red carpet outside the Odeon cinema in London’s Leicester Square on Wednesday, she carried her beloved pet in an Argyle backpack cat carrier. Chip could be seen behind a plexiglass dome. While Claudia Schiffer smiled happily into the photographers’ cameras, some of her fans stopped laughing. “The poor cat,” write followers of her Instagram account. Or: “A cat is not a toy.”
Before the world premiere, the 53-year-old had , in which she can be seen completing the press day with her cat. In it she poses with Chip in her arms, shows him in her backpack and lets numerous photographers take photos of him on a merchandising table. “The cat must be anesthetized,” was one fan comment. Someone else criticized: “The cat doesn’t look happy.”

But Claudia Schiffer apparently has every intention of making her little darling a star. Chip already has his own Instagram page, which is constantly attracting more fans and currently has almost 14,000 followers. There the animal is presented as an author, entrepreneur, model and influencer. Chip had already made a trip into the spotlight with his cat mom in December: the duo visited the Jonathan Ross show together. When the presenter hugged the cat, he meowed. Schiffer commented: “He can be grumpy.”
In the talk show she also told how the use of cats in the “Argylle” film came about: The original cat was terrible. “So my husband, Matthew, the director, asked if he could have my cat. I said, ‘Why not’ and here we are.” She also revealed that Chip might be seen again: “We’re currently working on a spin-off.”
Chip plays Alfie in the thriller, which hits theaters on February 2nd. Together with his owner and spy novelist Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard, 42), he becomes the focus of a dark underground group.
