It wasn’t until she was 65 that she began writing prose. Brought her first novel Ilse Helbich out at 80, her poetry debut “While walking” appeared at the age of 94. In 2018, she was awarded the Cultural Prize of the State of Lower Austria, and she left her literary legacy to the Documentation Center for Literature in St. Pölten. Today is Friday Ilse Helbich died at the ripe old age of 100 in her native Vienna. This was announced by her publisher Droschl.

“How life happens”
The future author was born on October 22, 1923 in Vienna, where she also studied German. She worked as a journalist, for example on the biography of Ludwig Wittgenstein, and wrote numerous radio collages for the ORF and columns for “The press”. Her late career as an author took place in books “Swallow script” (2003), “Actual status. Seven stories from late life” (2007) or in the collection of early and later poems “While walking” (2017). The book was last published by Droschl Verlag shortly before her 100th birthday “How life happens” appeared, which brings together three literary village stories.
