Peralta Ramos Forest

It is a residential neighborhood and a forest reserve of the city of Mar del Plata, in the province of Buenos Aires. This semi-rubanized forest reserve has 450 hectares and is located 11 kilometers south of the city. It borders the neighborhoods Punta Mogotes to the northeast, Faro Norte to the east, Alfar to the southeast, San Jacinto to the south, Santa Rosa to the southwest and Jardín de Peralta Ramos to the northwest.

The origins of the forest date back to 1862, when the lands were purchased by Patricio Peralta Ramos, a merchant and rancher who founded the city of Mar del Plata. Many years later, a 60-hectare property was divided up and the buildings began to be seen among the trees. A variety of conifers were incorporated into the forestation that enhanced the attractiveness of its original mountains.

Among the existing vegetation there are different pines, eucalyptus, oaks, magnolias, jasmines, among many others. Among the fauna, There are about 115 species of birds and some mammals such as hares, mice, guinea pigs, weasels and skunks.
