The organization of Berlin International Film Festivalissued a statement asking the Iranian authorities to allow the film’s directors to travel. “My Favorite Cake”, Maryam Moghaddam and Behtash Sanaeehato present his film at this year’s Berlinale that will begin on February 15, the international press reported.
Since it was announced that “My Favorite Cake” will premiere in competition at the festival, Iranian authorities banned Moghaddam and Sanaeeha from traveling and confiscated their passports, according to the specialized site Variety. They also face trial “in relation to their work as artists and filmmakers.”

“The Berlinale is a festival fundamentally committed to freedom of expression and the arts for all people around the world, and we are dismayed to learn that Moghaddam and Sanaeeha could be prevented from traveling to present their film and meet their audience in Berlin,” they said in a statement from the festival.
“We ask the Iranian authorities – they added – to return the passports and end all restrictions that prevent them from traveling freely to Berlin this February, along with other international directors and film talents from around the world.”
