This tourist town located 120 kilometers from Buenos Aires stands out for its rich combination of history, gaucho culture, country setting and presence of the river. The most direct way to get there is by car taking National Route 8, although there is also a bus that leaves from Retiro.
The Arellano square, which is the main one, houses the main buildings: Police Station, Municipality, Civil Registry, and San Antonio de Padua Parish. Near the square, the Draghi family museum and silversmith’s workshop displays an impressive collection of 19th-century gaucho pieces, all made of silver.
Along the Ribera de Areco, towards the river, there are artisan stalls and antique shops, along with restaurants and country houses. Spending the afternoon on the banks of the river, with parks and public barbecues, is an ideal plan on pleasant days.
