Around three weeks after the change of throne in Copenhagen, Denmark’s Queen Mary celebrated her first birthday in her new role. To celebrate the day, she shares a snapshot from her old home.
The Danish Queen Mary turned a year older for the first time in her new role and on this occasion gave a private insight into a trip to her native homeland.

Fell in love at the 2000 Olympics
Mary Donaldson was born on February 5, 1972 in Tasmania, Australia. During the 2000 Olympic Games she met the then Danish Crown Prince Frederik in Sydney. The two married in 2004 and had four children: the current Crown Prince Christian (18), Princess Isabella (16) and the twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine (both 13).
On January 14th, Frederik took over the throne from his mother Queen Margrethe II (83) after the long-standing monarch abdicated after a 52-year reign. In the course of the change of throne, Mary went from crown princess to queen.
