People: Opera Ball in Vienna started with hymns

It is the social highlight of the ball season in Vienna: the Opera Ball. Of course, Richard Lugner, who was accompanied this year by US actress Priscilla Presley, should not be missing.

The 66th Vienna Opera Ball opened in the evening with the Austrian national anthem and the European anthem. The opening program also included a performance by the Latvian mezzo-soprano Elina Garanca. The 47-year-old was supposed to sing, among other things, arias from Georges Bizet’s opera “Carmen” in front of the 5,000 guests in the State Opera, which had been converted into a ballroom. The highest-ranking guest was Austria’s head of state Alexander Van der Bellen. Chancellor Karl Nehammer and his wife Katharina also attended the festival, which is considered the social highlight of the ball season in Vienna.

The appearance of the 91-year-old entrepreneur and socialite Richard “Mörtel” Lugner, who brought the US actress Priscilla Presley to the ball, was once again covered by many media outlets. Presley wore a silver sequin dress. The folk musician Heino and the comedian Oliver Pocher were also among the guests. The Italian cinema star Franco Nero (“Django”) also took a seat in an entrepreneur’s box. The male top model Papis Loveday attracted a lot of attention. The 47-year-old from Senegal wore an extremely eye-catching headdress that was reminiscent of a jeweled carnival mask.

Around 400 police officers provided security around the State Opera. A surcharge will once again be charged on admission tickets as well as on food and drinks, which is intended to benefit social purposes. The entrance ticket cost 385 euros, for the most expensive boxes you have to pay 24,500 euros.
