A movie based on the best-selling video game is reportedly in production, The Sims.
The film adaptation will be produced by LuckyChap Entertainment, with directors Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara as producers along with Vertigo Entertainment.
The script will be co-written by Briony Redman and the director of the film, Kate Herronbest known for directing the first season of Loki.
The game’s publisher, Electronic Arts, will also participate in the creation and production of the feature film.
What The Sims is about
The Sims is a life simulation video game, in which the player controls an avatar, making it work, building houses, developing relationships, skills and personality traits.
The first version of the game was released in 2002 and within two years more than 6.3 million copies had been sold worldwide.
After several expansion packs and sequels, the franchise has sold almost 200 million copies worldwide, becoming one of the best-selling video games of all time. Players can now choose from a wide variety of simulated lives and environments, from college to vacation, and can control entire families of Sims, including their pets.
LuckyChap, also known for producing I, Tonya and Promising Young Womanhad a hugely successful year, producing not only the infamous black comedy thriller Saltburnbut also the Barbie that broke records.
Directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Robbie herself, Barbie achieved worldwide fame, becoming the fourteenth highest-grossing film of all time and winning the inaugural award at the Golden Globes for cinematic and box office achievement, having grossed more than $1.4 billion at the box office.
