Hollywood actress Eva Mendes (50) spoke about her retirement from acting and the division of labor with husband Ryan Gosling (43). “It was almost a non-verbal agreement,” Mendes said on the “Today” show.
After a years-long career with action and comedy hits (“2 Fast 2 Furious”, “Hitch – The Date Doctor”), she withdrew from Hollywood around ten years ago with the birth of her first daughter with Gosling. “It was like, okay, he’s going to work and I’m going to work, I’m just going to work here,” Mendes said, referring to her shared home with Gosling.
She wanted to give up acting “because acting takes you to film locations, it takes you away,” explained Mendes. It “pretty much went without saying” that she wanted to stay at home for her two daughters, now nine and seven years old.
Gosling, who was most recently nominated for an Oscar for his role as Ken in the “Barbie” film, expressly thanked Mendes at the Golden Globe Awards in 2017 for making it possible for him to work in Hollywood.
