Fresh from their collaboration in “Poor Things”the Oscar-nominated director Yorgos Lanthimos and the winner of best actress Emma Stone They already have their next movie ready. Searchlight released the trailer for Lanthimos’ new film, “Kinds of Kindness”which will premiere on June 21 (date confirmed in the United States).
The rest of the cast includes Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualleywho were in “Poor Things”, in addition to Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie and Hunter Schafer. Alwyn previously worked with Stone and Lanthimos on the 2018 period film “The Favorite”.

What “Kind of Kindness” is about
According to its official synopsis, “Kinds of Kindness” is a “triptych fable, following a choiceless man who tries to take control of his own life; a police officer alarmed because his wife, missing at sea, has returned and looks like a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader.”
“Kinds of Kindness” follows the success of “Poor Things,” which won four Oscars. Stone played Bella Baxter, a Victorian-era woman who committed suicide and comes back to life with the brain of her unborn baby. The fantasy period film, which tours many countries and explores themes of female empowerment, won Academy Awards for best production design, costume design, makeup and hair, and best actress. The film was nominated for a total of 11 Oscars, including best picture.
Stone and Lanthimos’ first collaboration, “The Favorite,” was set in 18th-century England and starred Stone and Rachel Weisz as cousins vying for the attention of Queen Anne (Olivia Colman); the film received 10 Oscar nominations. Other Stone and Lanthimos collaborations include the 2022 silent short film “Bleat.”
