“Damned Nightmare”: Kristen Stewart rails against Marvel films

Actress Kristen Stewart has said in drastic terms that she would never want to take on a role in a Marvel film.

Whatever you want to call the opposite of an application letter – actress Kristen Stewart (33) has just sent it to Marvel. The “Twilight” star explained why he will probably never star in any of the superhero films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The very idea sounds “like a damn nightmare” to her ears, Stewart chose words that were both clear and drastic.

She justified her rejection of the immensely successful franchise with what she saw as the generic, almost indistinguishable plots of the individual strips. A truly innovative entry in the MCU requires “so much money and so much trust in a single person – and that doesn’t happen. What ends up happening is this algorithmic, strange experience where you can’t feel personal at all.”

A back door named Greta Gerwig

But Stewart backtracked a little in the conversation and left a back door open into the MCU. In this case, she linked her career to a very specific person in the director’s chair – “Barbie” director Greta Gerwig: “Maybe the world is changing, that’s what I mean. How could I say no if Greta Gerwig (40) asked me Maybe one day I would ask you to do a Marvel movie? Then I would do it.”

Kristen Stewart celebrated her Hollywood debut in the 2002 thriller “Panic Room” as a young actress alongside Jodie Foster (61). She finally achieved great fame six years later and together with Robert Pattinson (37) through the film adaptations of the “Twilight” novels.

Recently, however, she has largely swapped large productions for smaller independent productions, such as David Cronenberg’s (81) sci-fi horror “Crimes of the Future” or the novel thriller “Love Lies Bleeding”. The film by Rose Glass (34) celebrated its international premiere at the Berlinale 2024 and will be in cinemas on June 13th.
