Plans are afoot for Tom Cruise to take to the skies again in a third Top Gun movie.
Jerry Bruckheimerthe producer behind the success of Tom Cruise from 1986, top gunand the box office sensation of 2022, Top Gun: Mavericktold the People portal “we are working on Top Gun 3” while promoting his new film with the filmmaker Guy Ritchie, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
“We presented Tom with a story that he liked. But he is a very sought-after actor and has many films in the pipeline, so we have to wait and see,” adds Bruckheimer, 80.
When asked what might surprise fans about Cruise, 61, Bruckheimer immediately points out the actor’s work ethic. “How hard he works,” he told the aforementioned portal. “A lot of actors finish the day, get in their car and go home. Tom stays, talks to the other actors, watches the movie they shot and wants to know what will happen tomorrow. He’s really involved in every part of the process” .
The success of Top Gun: Maverick
Top Gun: Maverick grossed nearly $1.5 billion at the global box office upon its release in 2022. The sequel was the highest-grossing film at the US box office of that calendar year and currently stands as the fifth highest-grossing film of all time in the US and the twelfth highest in the world.
When asked what the film’s success more than 25 years after the first Top Gun means to him, Bruckheimer tells him, “Oh, it’s fantastic.”
“Just the fact that we can entertain so many people around the world was something we worked very hard on. It’s just the best thing ever,” he says. “Just standing in the theater and watching the audience applaud, cry and laugh. Laughter is the best thing in the world.”
