20 years ago, actors were often asked to kiss during casting to test chemistry, says Hathaway. She wasn’t exactly thrilled about that.
Oscar winner Anne Hathaway (“Les Misérables”) said she feigned enthusiasm 20 years ago about having to kiss her way through a series of potential film partners during a casting. “In the 2000s – and this happened to me too – it was considered normal to ask an actor to snog other actors to test chemistry,” the 41-year-old told fashion magazine V Magazine.
“I was told, ‘Ten guys are coming today and you’re cast. Aren’t you excited to make out with each of them?” And I thought, “Is there something wrong with me?” because I wasn’t excited. I thought it sounded gross.”
She was “so young” back then and knew exactly “how easy it is to lose everything if you’re labeled as ‘difficult,'” Hathaway explained. “So I just pretended I was excited and carried on.” The actress emphasized that this situation was not a “power game” on the part of those responsible and that no one wanted to hurt her. “It was just a completely different time and today we know better.”
For her new film “When You Saw Me”, on which she worked as a producer, her potential partners should have brought a song and improvised a dance scene with Hathaway. The romantic comedy, which stars Hathaway alongside British actor Nicholas Galitzine, will be released on Amazon Prime Video on May 2nd.
