In an interview, the Austrian actor Philipp Hochmair talks about his reading difficulties, which caused him a lot of trouble during his school days.
The Austrian actor Philipp Hochmair learned to read with difficulty. The 50-year-old told the magazine “Bunte” that his reading difficulties made his early school days very difficult. “From one day to the next, all of my classmates could suddenly read and I was the only one who couldn’t. And of course I was ridiculed for that. That left a wound.”
Today’s stage star, who will play “Everyman” again at the Salzburg Festival this summer, also didn’t have the courage to be the center of attention when he was young. He felt like an outsider and took refuge in drawing. “I could do that better than the others and that gave me the feeling that I could compensate for my weakness.”
In the end, despite his initial problems, he developed a passion for lyrical and image-rich language. “There are also people who like to eat well but can’t cook,” Hochmair, who, in addition to his stage appearances, often has roles on television, told the magazine. Hochmair is known to TV audiences from the ARD series “Blindly Detected”.
