After his conviction in Great Britain, Boris Becker has long since been released. But the insolvency proceedings against the sports star continued. Until now.
According to his lawyer, ex-tennis professional Boris Becker is no longer insolvent. “As a result of an agreement with his insolvency administrators, Boris Becker’s private insolvency, which opened in 2017, was legally terminated by a decision by the High Court in London yesterday,” lawyer Christian-Oliver Moser told the German Press Agency on behalf of the 56-year-old . The court ordered the immediate discharge of residual debt. This means “that our client is released from any further liability arising from the insolvency debts”.
Becker’s entry in the insolvency register was still visible on Thursday. The responsible British insolvency authority confirmed to the dpa that Becker’s insolvency would be lifted this Saturday (April 27). According to the authority, all requirements related to this procedure end with the discharge from bankruptcy.
The three-time Wimbledon winner was sentenced to two and a half years in prison in London at the end of April 2022 because he had concealed millions in assets from his insolvency administrators. He was released early in December 2022 due to a special regulation for foreign prisoners, was immediately deported to Germany and, according to British media, will not be allowed to return to his former adopted home of Great Britain until October 2024 at the earliest.
Bankruptcy proceedings continued after his release from prison
However, the insolvency proceedings continued regardless. Becker had to hand over part of his income to the insolvency administrators. According to his lawyer, he has now reached an agreement on this point.
The terms of the agreement with the insolvency administrators are confidential, the statement from lawyer Moser continued. Becker “will not comment further on this process or other details at this time.”
