La Blanqueada – The Flowers
fourteen years ago, Mauricio Propato He moved from the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Villa Pueyrredón to a rural area in the municipality of Las Flores. There he acquired The Bleachedan eighteen-hectare estate with a country house built in 1902. Started making red wine following the techniques of his maternal grandfather, using varieties of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir.
“I am the last link that follows the family tradition,” said Propato. His grandfather, José Badini, arrived in Argentina in 1950 from Romania and began producing wine in the Italian style: he bought grapes in the markets of Buenos Aires and pressed them manually.
“I really enjoyed making wine with it,” recalled Mauricio, who has replicated the family technique. Every year, before the vines ripen, he travels to Mendoza, Río Negro or the southwest of Buenos Aires to bring grapes. “We visit small vineyards. I am quite meticulous, I measure the sugar levels and when they are ready for vinification, I proceed to the harvest,” he explained.
It is considered a “hunter” due to its persistence and ability to find excellent quality fruits. “We know how to make wines with good grapes and in quantity,” he said.
La Blanqueada produces two wines with the same process until pressing: “Forbidden Berry”, which is fermented in stainless steel tanks and has a shorter production time, resulting in a soft and light wine; and “Bricconne”, which is aged in French oak barrels.
On the estate, guided tastings, pairings with regional flavors and tastings of typical dishes from the area are offered, such as lamb casserole with malbec with papines and empanadas fried in fat in an old pot.
Mauricio and his partner Ana also organize visits to the La Delfina dairy farm, where cheeses, yogurts and ricotta are made with buffalo milk.
