Hollywood star Cate Blanchett has a fascination for the German language – and a German word that she particularly likes to use. “In everyday life I like to use the word “wonderful”,” the 55-year-old told dpa in Cannes.
“I just love the structure of the German language,” she explained. “The fact that you can have a word that is so specific for something. I remember when I was a teenager and someone who I thought was so sophisticated was talking about ‘Schadenfreude’. And I said: “Harm-what-the-joy?” I thought that was such a demanding word – as a 17-year-old it was my new favorite word.”
