Actor: Gary Oldman celebrates 27 years of abstinence from alcohol

In his new film, the Oscar winner plays a drunken poet. In real life, he hasn’t touched alcohol for a long time – and feels happier than ever.

Gary Oldman (66) has reflected on his turbulent past and previous alcohol consumption. “When I was younger, my life was full of chaos and drama, and there was a lot of pain,” the Brit said in Cannes on Wednesday. “I made no secret of the fact that I drank. I recently celebrated 27 years of sobriety.”

The Oscar winner (“The Darkest Hour”) said: “I am the happiest person I have ever been. I feel more comfortable in my own skin than when I was young.” He has a great family that supports him.

Oldman can be seen in the film “Parthenope” at the film festival. The work of the Italian director Paolo Sorrentino tells the life of a Neapolitan woman. Oldman embodies a melancholic, drunken poet. This partly reminded him of his own past, said Oldman.
