Los Angeles Police to Launch Criminal Investigation into Matthew Perry’s Death

Perry, best known for playing Chandler Bing on the hit comedy, died on October 28 at his home in California, at the age of 54.

“With the high levels of ketamine found in his postmortem blood samples, the main lethal effects would be both cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression,” his autopsy said.

Now, the Los Angeles Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) have told The Hollywood Reporter that they have launched a joint criminal investigation into his death and How Perry came to have such high levels of the drug in his system and in his possession.

Perry’s autopsy also mentioned drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine, a drug used to treat opioid addiction, as contributing factors to his death. At the time it was considered an accident and there were no signs of foul play.

Throughout his life, Perry spoke openly about his struggles with drugs and alcohol, which he documented in his 2022 memoir Friends, Lovers, And The Big Terrible Thing.

He had been receiving ketamine infusion therapy and his last session took place just over a week before his death. However, the autopsy indicated that “the ketamine in her system at the time of her death could not have come from that infusion therapy, as the half-life of ketamine is three to four hours or less.”
