Jeremy Renner gave new details of the accident that almost cost him his life: “I saw my eye hanging”

More than a year after his hospitalization, Jeremy Renner spoke in detail about the snowplow accident that nearly cost him his life during Wednesday night’s episode of “The Tonight Show”.

“The machine got out of control, out of my hands. He was crashing into my nephew and crushing him between the truck and the [quitanieves]so I jumped back, or tried to, and got stuck on the tracks,” Renner told Jimmy Fallon. “About 38 bones were broken. “It was brutal, man.”

Then, The actor revealed that one of his ankles, half of his face and the right side of his back are now “metal”, that is, they were reinforced with titanium. He also suffered 14 rib fractures during the accident.

I saw my eye hanging with the other eye (it was because my eyeball came out), strange things go through your head, right?” Renner continued as Fallon looked visibly shocked. “It’s like, ‘I guess that’s real, but I’ll worry about that later.’ I look and my legs are twisted, ‘I’ll worry about that later.’ I have to worry about breathing first.’”

Before asking her questions about her accident, Jimmy Fallon made sure the “Avengers” star was okay with talking about her injuries. “I think it’s quite cathartic. It can be quite healing,” Renner said.

Jeremy Renner’s accident

In January of last year, Renner was hit by a snowplow after saving his nephew from the vehicle. The actor assured Fallon that he knew how to operate the machine but that due to the “terrible conditions” the accident occurred. At the time, Renner and his family were stuck “in like 12 feet of snow.”

Renner knew he had to stay calm or he would die. Despite his gruesome injuries and his brutal recovery, the actor focused on the unlikely positives of his near-death experience.

“There are so many great gifts in being tested to your limits: your physical limits, your spiritual limits, your emotional limits. I won’t have a bad day for the rest of my life. It’s impossible, right? That’s where that gift is,” Renner said.

But he also learned to “not panic and concentrate.” He noted how difficult it was to breathe after the accident, not knowing that he had a burst lung. “Thinking about it step by step is a great reminder of what we should all be looking at in life,” Renner said. “If we get too stressed or if things get too difficult or the odds are insurmountable or whatever, just put one foot on the ground and then the other.”

“I think I can achieve anything right now.”he added.

The Marvel star also revealed that Anthony Mackie was one of the first people he saw when he woke up in the hospital after being on life support for “three or four days.” It was said that she received a visit from some of her other Marvel co-stars, but he did not reveal her name.

“It was like a kind of living wake. Everyone was coming to say goodbye, which is a little strange, right? But at least Mackie was there and he was really concerned,” Renner said. “Receiving so much love is also something very difficult for anyone to do”.
