Sublime released their first new song in 28 years, featuring vocals from the late Bradley Nowell and his son Jakob

The band reunited earlier this year with the late singer’s son, Jakob Nowell, at the helm for a performance at Coachella.

Sublime is back with a new song for the first time in 28 years, and the song features vocals from the band’s late leader, Bradley Nowelland his son, Jakob Nowell.

The new song from the reggae-punk fusion band, “Feel Like That”also has Scott Woodruff of Stick Figure on vocals, as well as with the founding members of the band Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh. Sublime’s first release since their viral Coachella set with Jakob, 28, at the helm, the song also marks nearly 28 years since Bradley’s death from a heroin overdose on May 25, 1996.

“This song came about organically. “My uncles and I always want to collaborate with artists from different modern music scenes,” Jakob said in a press release. “But hearing my own voice on a track next to my father’s voice really feels like the classic Sublime sound entering the world modern era“.

“Southern California music is my family’s pride and joy and our family is getting bigger every day. ‘Feel Like That’ captures this new feeling and we want it to be the first of many,” Nowell added. “Who wants to join the family next?”

Producers on the new song include Grammy Award-winning collaborators Woodruff and Johnny Cosmic, as well as the band’s longtime collaborator Michael “Miguel” Happoldt.

The success of Sublime

Sublime originally had massive success in the mid-1990s with their tracks like “Santeria” and “What I Got”which mixed elements of punk, reggae, ska and funk, and experienced continued radio success even after Nowell’s death.

By April 1997, less than a year after its leader’s death, the self-titled album entered Billboard’s Top 20, with its lead single “What I Got” topping the Modern Rock Chart. This period marked the sale of more than two million copies of the album.
