Céline Dion: Will she give a TV farewell concert?

Will fans be able to see Céline Dion on stage once again? Apparently a farewell concert on TV is planned.

Although singer Céline Dion (65) suffers from stiff person syndrome, she is looking to her future with hope. According to the British newspaper “The Sun”, the singer is planning to perform one last time as part of a TV special.

“Céline does not give up her desire to sing again”

The singer was diagnosed with the rare syndrome, which causes muscle hardening and cramps, in 2022. Nevertheless, she is said to be working tirelessly on her voice in order to be able to sing again despite her battle with the neurological autoimmune disease. She is tackling her muscle disease with various therapies every day and hopes that research will soon find a cure for the disease.

“The Sun” quoted a source as saying: “Céline is not giving up on her desire to sing again. She has been working with vocal coaches, band members and specialists for over six months. She believes she could release a concert film in which she plays her biggest hits.” Just a year ago, Dion had to cancel the remaining dates of her “Courage World Tour”. At the time, she said she “could not answer” whether she would ever be able to return.

In March 2024, however, she declared on Instagram that she was determined to “one day be back on stage and live as normal a life as possible.” Shortly before, in February, she surprised everyone by attending the Grammy Awards. For the first time since the announcement of her illness in December 2022, the five-time Grammy winner herself appeared in public again. Amid thunderous applause and a standing ovation, Dion presented the Grammy for best album of the year to pop singer Taylor Swift (34).

Her documentary will be released on June 25

Her health problems are shown in the documentary “I Am: Celine Dion”, which will be available on Amazon Prime Video from June 25th. A press release said that the film is also “a love letter to her fans”. A recently released trailer shows moving moments. She had not been ready to talk about her fate until now. “But now I’m ready,” says the global star in the two-minute clip. And she further emphasizes with regard to her failing voice: “I need my instrument.” But the illness affects her voice, and she also finds it difficult to walk. In addition to the physical problems, the singer also misses her fans: “You know, it’s not difficult to do a show. It’s difficult to cancel a show.”
