Udo Lindenberg on Sylt-Geröle: Racism must not become a “party hit”

Xenophobic chants to the party hit “L’amour toujours”: On Instagram, Udo Lindenberg made it clear what he thinks of the scandal on Sylt.

In his long career, Udo Lindenberg (78) has repeatedly expressed his political views, and in many of his songs he takes a stand against right-wing extremism and contempt for humanity. In view of the rampant misuse of the party hit “L’amour toujours” for xenophobic slogans, which is currently making headlines, he now felt compelled to make a clear statement again.

The singer posted an angry comment on the racist incidents on Sylt and elsewhere, in which the original lyrics of the party anthem by Italian musician Gigi D’Agostino (56) were replaced by xenophobic lines.

Neo-Nazis with “champagne in their hands instead of baseball bats”

“We have just celebrated our constitution – human dignity… but the ghosts of the dark German past will stop at nothing,” Lindenberg began his statement. In earlier times, neo-Nazis were easier to recognize, today they no longer have bald heads, “but stylish hairstyles, and a glass of champagne in their hand instead of a baseball bat.” Nevertheless, the “snobby village chic-micky sneaks” are still spewing “the same cold vomit” from their mouths.

“Fascists piss off, nobody misses you”

The fact that racism becomes a party hit and contempt for humanity becomes a trend should not be allowed. Anyone who trivializes such incidents must be “pretty blind” in view of German history. The singer concluded his post with a quote from his song “Panik-Panther”, which he released in 1992 in response to the brutal skinhead activities in the post-reunification period: “So fascists, piss off, nobody misses you.” Udo Lindenberg posted a photo next to his comment showing him with his middle finger extended.
