Actress Ruth Maria Kubitschek is dead. She died on June 1, 2024 at the age of 92 after a short, serious illness in her adopted home of Switzerland. A spokeswoman for Kubitschek confirmed this to star.

According to this, the actress’ last words were: “I say goodbye to a wonderful life with a big thank you. To the miracle of earth. To the four elements of air, water, fire and earth. The earth gave me a wonderful home in this world. With deep gratitude I move on to the other world. It exists, you can believe me.”

Ruth Maria Kubitschek achieved cult status as “Spatzl”

Kubitschek had a lasting influence on German television for many years. She was on board the ZDF “Traumschiff”, acted in the ARD “Tatort” and in the series “Das Erbe der Guldenburgs” on ZDF. Kubitschek achieved cult status alongside Helmut Fischer as Annette von Soettingen alias “Spatzl” in the Bavarian Broadcasting TV series “Monaco Franze – Der ewige Stenz”.

The actress was born in 1931 in Komotau (now Czech Republic) on the edge of the Ore Mountains. Towards the end of the Second World War, the family fled to Saxony-Anhalt. After attending drama schools in Halle (Saale) and Weimar, she made her debut as Fina in Brecht’s “Mr. Puntila and his servant Matti” in Halle. Within a few years she became a star of GDR television and DEFA films. In 1959 she went to the West with her son. Her husband, the opera and theater director Götz Friedrich, stayed in the GDR, but was also allowed to direct in the West.

Kubitschek’s West German career began at the Schlosstheater in Celle. Roles in television productions soon followed – appearances in “Lysistrata” (1961), “Die Powenzbande” (1973) and the title role in “Melissa” (1966). In 1985 she also filmed the cult series “Kir Royal” with Helmut Dietl, which made fun of the Munich chic crowd. In 2013 she finally played her last role in the film “Frau Ella”. Since 2013 she has been Swiss and lived in Ascona.

She died in a hospital, her spokeswoman Yvonne von Stempel told DPA. The funeral will be held in the immediate family circle.
