Actor: Mads Mikkelsen prefers to look forward

Mikkelsen can be seen in the film “King’s Land” in cinemas from Thursday. He plays a man who loses sight of what is important. Unlike his protagonist, Mikkelsen does not want to regret anything.

Mads Mikkelsen says he doesn’t like to dwell on past mistakes. “I’m not the type of person who regrets things, even those that were really bad,” the 58-year-old told dpa. And then admitted: He might regret “a few things” that he did in the past – “but I’ll never say what they are.”

He believes that mistakes are there to learn from. “Or maybe we don’t learn from them, but they are part of us. They are part of who we are. We can’t just say: ‘I wish I had never done that.’ Because if you hadn’t done that, you wouldn’t be yourself. Of course: If you have done something incredibly terrible, it is certainly right to regret it.” He doesn’t think that applies to him, said the Dane.

From June 6, Mikkelsen can be seen in a new film in German cinemas. In Nikolaj Arcel’s historical drama “King’s Land,” he plays a stubborn Danish war veteran who has to fight against adversity. In order to gain a noble title, he wants to make a barren landscape fertile for the Danish king. While he pursues this goal at all costs, he loses sight of other things – for example, people who are important to him. If he were the protagonist, he would regret a lot, said Mikkelsen.
