Cerro Catedral opened the season and they hope it will be the “longest in history”

With great enthusiasm and the best expectations, Cerro Catedral announced the opening of the 2024 winter season for this Friday, June 7. According to the company, it will be the longest season in history.

With the early arrival of snow that accumulated in large quantities from the base to the summit, the largest ski center in South America has worked intensely to ensure the best conditions and guarantee the safety of skiers and snowboarders.

Despite a challenging economic context, a successful season is expected, supported by the advance sale of passes and the expansion of lifting infrastructure. Tourism operators anticipate a high influx of national and international tourists during the month of July.

At Cerro Catedral they are fine-tuning the details to open all means of elevation to the public. The intense snowfalls of the first days of May have allowed three slopes to be opened in the southern sector of the mountain, offering the residents of Bariloche the opportunity to enjoy their first days of skiing.

The Cable Carril is operational from Monday to Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., for pedestrians who want to enjoy the impressive landscape. In addition, intensive work was carried out to enable the 27 lifts and the 58 slopes, with the aim of receiving in the best way the more than 600,000 visitors who are expected to arrive this season.

“In this 2024 Winter Season, we invite everyone to live this time in the wonderful city of Bariloche that offers countless alternatives for lovers of snow, sports and those looking for nature, gastronomy and relaxation,” said Sergio Herrero, Secretary of Bariloche Tourism.

New lifting devices

The capacity of Cerro Catedral has increased significantly in recent years, with the inauguration of four new lifts. On days of high demand, such as during the winter holidays, the slopes are able to receive around 150,000 people daily.

Within hours of opening, there is optimism about the season. The advance sale of passes allows tourists to plan their trips with greater foresight. The company made the 5- and 7-day “Flexipass” products available, with the possibility of being used both in the 2024 season and in the following season in the event that not all passes are used.

Connectivity

Also the increase in domestic flights from the country’s main cities, such as seasonal flights from Brazil and Chile, will have a positive impact on the city’s tourism. The campaigns previously developed by Emprotur of Bariloche and the forecasts of the airline companies anticipate a significant influx of visitors from neighboring countries, mainly Brazilians who are expected to arrive in large numbers to the city.

Snow Festival

Cerro Catedral will once again have an important role in the development of the National Snow Festival, an event of great significance for Bariloche, which this year aims to revalue the work of the city’s pioneers. Organized by the municipal Tourism Secretariat, the festival will open like every year with the long-awaited Lowering of Lights, emulating the traditional lowering of torches.

Residents and tourists will also be able to enjoy artistic shows and winter sports activities that will soon be confirmed by the organization.

The 2024 winter season in Bariloche is about to begin and the city is eagerly waiting to welcome all those who wish to immerse themselves in the beauty and nature of this unique winter destination.
