Lots of rain and joy: HP Baxxter and Sara get married on Sylt

A wedding in the rain is said to bring good luck to the marriage. If the superstition is true, Scooter frontman HP Baxxter and his young wife Sara are looking forward to rosy times.

They’ve got married: Scooter frontman HP Baxxter and his partner Sara tied the knot on the North Sea island of Sylt. When the bride and groom arrived at the church on Saturday afternoon, it was pouring with rain – according to popular belief, this is a good omen for the marriage. To the delight of onlookers and invited guests, the couple kissed twice after the ceremony at the request of the waiting photographers.

The 60-year-old musician and his partner, who is more than 35 years younger than him, were married in a civil ceremony on Friday in the Sylt Local History Museum in the presence of their closest family. The church wedding followed the next day in front of an estimated 100 guests.

Baxxter, wearing a dark tailcoat, drove up first in a Rolls-Royce. Shortly afterwards, Sara arrived in another car. She wore a white dress with a V-neck and lace trim and a veil in her upswept hair. The bridal bouquet was decorated with white roses and gypsophila.

Cheerful atmosphere at the church

When the bride and groom, who seemed very much in love, emerged from the St. Severin Church in Keitum after about an hour and a half, the rain had stopped. The mood among the guests, who were waiting for the newlyweds with champagne, was also cheerful and relaxed. The couple accepted the guests’ congratulations in front of the church. Among those present were FDP politician Wolfgang Kubicki and cult chef Tim Mälzer. The group reportedly celebrated later in a well-known island bar.

Near the church, numerous onlookers had also waited in the pouring rain to catch a glimpse of the couple. The wedding had been kept secret for a long time, but HP Baxxter himself had published a photo of himself and Sara on Instagram on Friday, showing both of them in front of the local history museum, which is also used as a registry office. The message “Just married” had garnered more than 20,000 likes by Sunday, including from Hamburg’s Deputy Mayor Katharina Fegebank (Greens).

The musician, whose real name is Hans Peter Geerdes, grew up in Leer in East Frisia in Lower Saxony and lives in Hamburg. He has been very successful with his techno band Scooter (“Hyper, Hyper”) since the 1990s and has had many top 10 hits and albums. This is his third marriage.

“We understand each other perfectly”

He told Bild on Saturday that he quickly realized that Sara was the right one. “We understand each other perfectly in all situations. That’s important. Not just when it’s high life, but also when things aren’t going so well, we stick together.” When the bride was led into the church by her father, he cried.

The couple’s engagement was announced in autumn last year. “We were travelling romantically in a vintage Rolls-Royce through the Highlands and were on the Isle of Skye. That’s where I asked for Sara’s hand in marriage,” Baxxter told the “Bild” newspaper in October. He also revealed details to the magazine “Bunte”: “I had bought the ring in Hamburg before our trip and carried it in my pocket the whole time. I wanted it to fit and not stage anything. And there, in Fort William, by a lake in the middle of nowhere, it was just the two of us. The moment was perfect.”
