Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman in talks to return for ‘Practical Magic’ sequel

Akiva Goldsman, who wrote the original film alongside Robin Swicord and Adam Brooks, will return to write the script.

Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman They are in negotiations to return in Practical Magic 2a sequel to the 1998 Warner Bros. romantic fantasy film, the studio announced via its social media channels on Monday.

Akiva Goldsmanwho wrote the original film with Robin Swicord and Adam Brooks, will rewrite the script. Bullock and Kidman are expected to produce alongside Denise DiNovi also from the original film. Details about the sequel’s plot are under wraps for now.

What Practical Magic is about

Directed by Griffin DunnePractical Magic adapted the 1995 novel by Alice Hoffman. The story follows two sisters, Sally (Bullock) and Gillian Owens (Kidman), who come from a long line of witches. Orphaned at a young age, they are raised by their eccentric aunts, who embrace their magical heritage. However, the Owens family is cursed: any man who falls in love with an Owens woman is doomed to an early death.

Later, Sally and Gillian struggle with their powers and the consequences of the family curse. Sally tries to lead a normal life, distancing herself from magic, but tragedy strikes when her husband dies. Gillian, on the other hand, lives a wild life and takes advantage of her magical abilities. The sisters reunite when Gillian finds herself in a dangerous relationship with Jimmy Angelov (Goran Visnjic), a violent man. In an effort to protect Gillian, the sisters accidentally kill Jimmy, leading to a series of supernatural events as they try to hide his death and finally break the family curse.

Kidman can currently be seen starring in Expats, the Prime Video miniseries from The Farewell’s Lulu Wang. She will soon be seen starring alongside Zac Efron and Joey King Netflix romantic comedy A Family Affairwhich will premiere on June 28.

Bullock comes from acting in blockbusters bullet train and The Lost Cityas well as the acclaimed Netflix films Bird Box and The Unforgivable.
