Kroos: This is where the football stars live during the European Championship

From the rural idyll of North Rhine-Westphalia to the golf resort in Thuringia: Where will Ronaldo, Kane and Co. stay during the European Championship in Germany?

The European Football Championship finally starts in Germany on Friday. The DFB team will face the team from Scotland in the opening match in Munich’s Allianz Arena. All 24 participating countries are currently moving into their European Championship quarters. But where will the biggest football stars of the European Championship be staying in the coming weeks? From Herzogenaurach to Bad Lippspringe to Neuruppin: this is where the footballers will be setting up camp for the European Championship.

Toni Kroos and Germany

The German team around Real Madrid superstar Toni Kroos (34) is staying in Herzogenaurach, Bavaria. The location is of course no coincidence: the headquarters of the current equipment supplier, the global brand Adidas, is in the tranquil Franconian town. Kroos, Neuer, Müller and Co. train and live in the so-called “HomeGround – adidas World of Sports” campus. 15 bungalows and numerous training pitches are available to them there.

Kylian Mbappé and France

For French superstar Kylian Mbappé (25) and his French team, the location of their quarters is just as unglamorous as that of the DFB team. Les Bleus reside in Bad Lippspringe in North Rhine-Westphalia. The town is located a few kilometers outside of Paderborn. There they stay in the 4-star hotel “Best Western Premier Parkhotel & Spa” in order to be able to prepare well for the games.

Harry Kane and England

Bayern star Harry Kane (30) and his Three Lions are moving to the east of the country, more precisely to Blankenhain in Thuringia. There they rented the “Weimarer Land” spa and golf resort so that they could concentrate on their sporting activities in isolation. There may even be a royal visit there soon: Kane has already hinted that Prince William (41) will probably visit the English national team. Whether he will be at a game in the stadium or in Thuringia is still unclear.

Luka Modrić and Croatia

Luka Modrić (38), veteran Real Madrid star and midfielder of the Croatian national team, also lives with his men in eastern Germany. The association chose the “Resort Mark Brandenburg” in the Theodor Fontane town of Neuruppin as the Croatian home for the European Championships. The 4-star hotel particularly praises its natural healing soles in indoor and outdoor pools and a floating lake sauna. Perfect for regeneration after strenuous games. The place is about an hour’s drive northeast of Berlin.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal

In all probability, the European Championship in Germany will be the last major tournament for superstar Cristiano Ronaldo (39) as a player for the Portuguese national team. Ronaldo and Co. are staying at the “Klosterpforte” hotel in Marienfeld. The town in North Rhine-Westphalia is almost isolated, southwest of Bielefeld, near Gütersloh. Incidentally, a public training session with Ronaldo and Co. was sold out within a minute with 6,000 tickets sold. There are said to have been 50,000 inquiries.

Robert Lewandowski and Poland

The former Bayern striker and current Barca striker Robert Lewandowski (35) and his Polish team are not staying near his hometown, but in the middle of Hanover. Poland is not looking for a rural idyll and peace like most other teams, but is staying in the inner-city hotel “Sheraton Pelikan” in the middle of the Lower Saxony capital. At least: The Eilenriede city forest is in the immediate vicinity for a spontaneous running session.

Rodri and Spain

The great times of the Spanish national teams seem to be over. Nevertheless, Rodri (27) and Co. are of course among the favorites in 2024. The team set up camp in Donaueschingen in Baden-Württemberg, more precisely in the “Öschberghof” there. The 5-star luxury hotel is far away from the hustle and bustle of a big city and offers ideal conditions for preparing for the Spaniards’ respective games.

Jorginho and Italy

Defending champion Italy, with its Brazilian-born midfield ace Jorginho (32) from Arsenal FC, is also staying in North Rhine-Westphalia. The Squadra Azzurra rented the entire 4-star superior hotel “VierJahreszeiten” on the Seilersee in Iserlohn as a so-called team base camp. Just good enough for the mission of defending the title…
