People: Kevin Spacey: Losing my house and millions in debt

Star roles in “American Beauty” and “House of Cards” once brought him fame and money. But allegations of sexual harassment caused his star to sink. Kevin Spacey now says he is heavily in debt.

Former Hollywood star Kevin Spacey says he is now heavily in debt and will also lose his house. The US actor (“American Beauty”, “House of Cards”) tearfully told the TV show “Piers Morgan Uncensored” that his house in Baltimore, Maryland, would be foreclosed on this week. He can no longer pay his bills. After trials for sexual harassment, he has no money left and is “many millions” in debt, the 64-year-old told British reporter Piers Morgan.

Several men have accused Spacey of sexual assault in recent years. The allegations made by actor Anthony Rapp against the two-time Oscar winner, which were first made public in 2017 in the course of the MeToo debate, led to further accusations and put Spacey’s career in jeopardy.

Spacey denied Rapp’s allegations – and a New York jury acquitted the star in 2022. Other men went to court, but some of the lawsuits were withdrawn or dismissed due to the statute of limitations. Spacey was also acquitted in 2023 in a trial in a London court in which four men accused him of sexual assault.

Spacey admits mistakes but denies allegations

In the 90-minute program “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” Spacey admitted mistakes but denied the accusation that he had behaved aggressively. He said he had pushed boundaries and touched others in a sexual way without knowing that they did not want it. But he had acted “gently” in these situations.

At the trial in London, the prosecution painted a picture of a man who abused his power to sexually harass men. Spacey denied the allegations and said that the sex was consensual.

When allegations against Spacey became public, Netflix immediately ended its collaboration with the hit series “House of Cards,” in which Spacey played the role of the tough politician Frank Underwood. Scenes with the star in the thriller “All The Money in the World” were also subsequently removed.
