The plot of the Max series follows the baffling story of Terry Maitland, a blameless man, exemplary husband and model citizen, in addition to being the baseball coach of the local youth leagues. However, his life takes an unexpected turn when he is accused of brutal murder of a child.
Suddenly turned into a pariah and the target of the worst suspicions and fears of a people obsessed with his supposed guilt, Maitland goes from being an appreciated, loved and respected figure to being the scapegoat from a community that knows him and has interacted with him for years, thus exacerbating confusion and anger around his involvement in the crime.
