The 85-year-old is known, among other things, for his role as Gandalf in the “Lord of the Rings” films. He is currently playing in London’s West End. An accident occurred there on Monday evening.

The actor Ian McKellen (85) fell from a theater stage in London and was taken to hospital. He apparently lost his footing during a fight scene, the British news agency PA reported on Tuesday night. According to the hospital team, however, he will make a quick and full recovery, the theater said. “Ian is in good spirits.”

McKellen played the wizard Gandalf in the “Lord of the Rings” films and was seen in the Marvel comic series “X-Men”. His particular passion is the theater and the writer William Shakespeare.

In London’s West End, he is currently playing Falstaff in “Player Kings” at the Noel Coward Theatre. The production has decided to cancel Tuesday’s performance so that McKellen can rest, PA quoted from a statement from the theatre. The theatre thanked both the well-wishes for McKellen and two medical professionals in the audience and the staff for their support.
