The White House has described video clips in which US President Biden allegedly appears confused as “cheap fakes”.
After two video clips in which US President Joe Biden (81) allegedly appears disoriented caused a stir in recent days, the White House has reacted. Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre (49) described the clips, which had previously been distributed by conservative circles, as “cheap fakes” in a press conference on Monday (June 17).
Barack Obama reportedly did not lead Joe Biden off the stage
The bone of contention was a video showing 81-year-old Biden supposedly “freezing” on stage at a fundraising gala on Saturday (June 15). Former US President Barack Obama (62), who also attended the event, then touched Biden on the arm and both left the stage.
Press secretary Jean-Pierre explained that the incident shows that Biden and Obama “have a relationship. They are friends. They are like family to each other.” Andrew Bates, the White House deputy press secretary, also reacted to the incident a few days ago on X (formerly Twitter), saying that Biden “took in the applauding crowd for a few seconds.”
According to press spokeswoman Jean-Pierre, the relevant footage was edited misleadingly and thus presented a false picture of the events. “That says everything about how desperate the Republicans are,” she said on Monday.
Footage from the G7 summit also criticized
Another similar incident had already occurred last week at the G7 summit in Apulia. In a clip distributed online, US President Biden was seen running away from other heads of state and government, apparently without reason, and was only brought back into the circle of the other summit participants by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni (47).
the intentionally chosen camera angle created this impression. However, the full video, which NBC News has obtained, shows that instead of walking away, Biden ran toward a group of skydivers who had just landed not far from the heads of state. Biden made an appreciative thumbs-up gesture toward the skydivers.
