German actress Sandra Hüller believes that everyone has a right to freedom, peace and security. She is now the godmother of the rescue ship “Sea-Eye 5”.
Actress Sandra Hüller will be the godmother of a rescue ship that will come to the aid of refugees in the Mediterranean from this summer. The 46-year-old (“Anatomy of a Case”, “The Zone of Interest”, “Toni Erdmann”) is taking over the sponsorship of the almost 35-year-old cruiser “Sea-Eye 5”, which was previously used by the German Sea Rescue Service off the coast of Schleswig-Holstein. “Every person has a right to freedom, peace and security,” said Hüller in justification. “I want to help ensure that people in need receive the help they urgently need.”
Three other ships are already sailing in the Mediterranean for the private German aid organization Sea-Eye, based in Regensburg. The organization estimated the purchase price of the cruiser at around 465,000 euros, which will be financed through donations. The central Mediterranean is one of the most important routes for people from Africa who want to come to Europe. People are repeatedly killed during the crossing in boats that are often barely seaworthy.
