Fynn Kliemann and Olli Schulz sell their houseboat to Rick Zabel

Fynn Kliemann and Olli Schulz sell their houseboat to Rick Zabel

Olli Schulz and Fynn Kliemann have sold their houseboat. The project was previously in crisis. The new owner is also known.

Probably the most famous houseboat in Germany has a new owner: YouTuber and web designer Fynn Kliemann announced in a post on Instagram: “The time has come: Olli and I are moving out. But we are handing over to good hands.” The clip shows Kliemann and others packing up various personal items and taking them off the boat. In 2018, he and musician and entertainer Olli Schulz bought the old houseboat of singer Gunter Gabriel, who died in 2017, in order to restore it and turn it into an oasis for artists. Kliemann also comments on the reasons for the sale and the new owner in the clip.

Apparently, the joint project meant a lot of stress, which also affected their friendship. He and Schulz would rather just “be buddies again”. The berth in Hamburg-Rothenburgsort will remain, and the new owners are ex-professional cyclist Rick Zabel, son of Erik Zabel, and his wife Leonie. Zabel also posted a clip in which he confirmed the purchase. “We’ll take good care of it,” he promised in a comment under the Kliemann video. What plans the new owners have for the boat and how much the purchase price is has not been disclosed.

Fynn Kliemann’s departure was already announced in January

Kliemann’s planned withdrawal from the joint project had already become known in January. It was only during the renovation that it became clear how broken the houseboat on which the late Gabriel lived for years in the Harburg inner harbor really was. As a result, unexpectedly high costs and a multitude of problems arose. In March 2021, the ups and downs of the project were addressed in a documentary series entitled “The Houseboat” on the streaming service Netflix. Business with the boat “unfortunately went badly” even after the restoration, as Olli Schulz revealed at the end of January. There he also announced Kliemann’s withdrawal and said: “My heart would bleed if I had to sell it. I’ve always dreamed of a houseboat and I like spending time there.” Now that case has happened.

Schulz and Kliemann’s plan did not work

According to Schulz, the duo’s plan did not work out. Their vision: They wanted to create a place on the houseboat that Gunter Gabriel lived in for 20 years that would be a concert venue, a music studio, but also a place of retreat. However, Schulz now explained: “The berth in Rothenburgsort is not suitable for events. And bookings have plummeted since the mask scandal involving Fynn.”

The Netflix documentary “The Houseboat”, which was released on March 9, 2021, shows the transformation of the once rusty barge into a place for music and creativity. Schulz and Kliemann had the ups and downs of the mammoth project documented over the course of two years.
