In the “NDR Talk Show,” actor Jürgen Vogel talks about his experiences with death. Several close relatives have cancer, and his father died from it.
Actor Jürgen Vogel has given insight into the serious blows of fate that have occurred within his family. Several of his close relatives have been diagnosed with cancer. “Somehow our family has been hit pretty hard,” said the 56-year-old in the “NDR Talk Show”.
“I donated bone marrow to my sister at the time. She had leukemia, which is blood cancer, one of the most aggressive forms of it. I was 21 or so at the time. It was a matter of life and death for her. Luckily, she made it through, thanks to my bone marrow,” said the man from Hamburg.
He continued on the show: “But my father died very young. He died at 58. I was in my early to mid-20s. I didn’t have such a good relationship with him. But it still affected me, of course. No matter what the relationship is like, other questions arise where you say: ‘I can’t clarify things anymore, I can’t ask questions anymore.’ So death accompanied me.”
The subject has been on his mind for a long time, he continued. “I have three sisters who all had and still have cancer. (…) They are all still alive, but one of them had breast cancer, but it worked out now because they caught it early enough. The other still has cancer. That is also my oldest sister. She is doing quite well. But of course it is in her and at some point what happens to all of us will happen. We will all die at some point.”
The actor appeared on the talk show with his great-cousin Benjamin Vogel. The 41-year-old is a trained nurse and runs a home. In the format, he reported on his experiences and the work he does for his association (Palliativberatung basis eV).
