Taylor Swift in London: Dave Grohl slanders her and gets into trouble

At the same time as Taylor Swift’s concert, the Foo Fighters were also playing in London. Singer Dave Grohl made a dig at Swift on stage, promptly causing trouble.

He saw it coming – but still couldn’t keep his mouth shut: At the Foo Fighters’ London concert at the weekend, singer Dave Grohl let himself be carried away by making slander about megastar Taylor Swift. While the rock band played two evenings at London’s Olympic Stadium, Swift sold out the Wembley Arena on the other side of town for three nights in a row.

“I know she’s on her ‘Eras’ tour,” Grohl mocked the name of Swift’s tour from the stage, as numerous video footage on social media shows. As his audience booed, he warned: “I’m telling you, man, you don’t want to incur the wrath of Taylor Swift!” And then added anyway: “We call our tour the ‘Errors’ tour because I feel like we’ve had more than a few eras and more than a few damn mistakes. Just a few. That’s because we’re actually playing live. What?!”

Taylor Swift responded promptly to Grohl’s accusation

His last sentence in particular, which suggested that Swift would not perform live, caused outrage among the singer’s fans, as expected. The “Swifties” reacted angrily on social media. But Foo Fighters fans also expressed their disappointment at “X”. “I love the Foo Fighters but that was really unnecessary,” or “I’m not a fan of Taylor Swift but (…) Dave Grohl just acted like a bitter old pisser.”

Many suspect a bruised ego behind the statements – and a dose of misogyny. “I’ve been a fan since Nirvana (…) I’m so disappointed that you’re speaking badly about someone in the industry (…) Is it because she’s a woman? Or because she’s so successful right now? Or maybe both? (…) I’ve lost my respect for you,” commented one fan. “Dave Grohl questioning a woman’s talent and success wasn’t on my bingo card for 2024, but that’s the way it is now. That’s so incredibly weak and embarrassing of you, Foo Fighters!” complained .

Taylor Swift herself used her third gig in London to indirectly respond to Grohl’s accusations. After a standing ovation on Sunday, the 34-year-old thanked her crew and specifically her band, “who will be playing live for you for three and a half hours tonight.”

Celebrities such as Prince William and his two eldest children, as well as Tom Cruise, Paul McCartney and Hugh Grant attended the show in London. London is the most popular stop on Swift’s “Eras” tour. After the three evenings last weekend, she will return to the British capital for five concerts in August. The 34-year-old’s world tour is considered the most successful concert tour ever. The proceeds from it recently made Taylor Swift a billionaire.
