Naomi Watts: This is how much she suffered from early menopause

Naomi Watts’ early menopausal symptoms caused panic. She was only 36 years old when the first symptoms appeared.

Naomi Watts (55) has spoken about her early menopausal symptoms at the age of 36. Doctors initially attributed these to stress. Now the actress is campaigning for better education and care for affected women.

“It was so shocking”

The transition to menopause usually begins between the ages of 45 and 55. However, Naomi Watts suffered from the first symptoms much earlier. “It was so shocking and filled me with shame that I just panicked,” Watt said in an interview. It caught her completely off guard: “I had irregular periods, night sweats and I told the doctors about it. But they just dismissed it as stress or something like that because of course you’re much too young at 36.” It was only years later, through her own internet research, that she found out that these were the first symptoms of menopause.

In her early to mid-40s, she began to experience “hardcore symptoms.” “My skin started to go crazy. I had irritated, itchy, sensitive skin,” she recalled, criticizing the medical care: It was “ridiculous” that there was no organization to provide advice and little information.

Company founded

Watts now wants to change that. She launched the “Stripes Beauty” product line for menopause and healthy aging in 2022. “I know I had shame, fear and doubt. Chances are, many other people are going through the same thing,” she stressed. “I had a lot of fear leading up to starting this company, and then I just felt like every woman is going to get to this point. Why don’t we get better care? There’s just a lack of education and research.”

Since its launch, the Hollywood star has met with doctors and sat on panels to learn about and discuss the new research on relieving menopause symptoms. The company, which is expanding into new global markets, including Canada, offers guides to understanding the transition in addition to its products. And so Watts’ advice to women approaching menopause is: “Don’t be afraid, get ahead of it.”

She has two children

Naomi Watts became known through films such as “The Impossible” and “Ring”. She has been married to her long-time partner Billy Crudup (55) since June 2023. She has two children from her relationship with colleague Liev Schreiber (56).
