After a family dispute, Bam Margera has to deal with the consequences: he was sentenced to six months probation.
Former “Jackass” star Bam Margera (44) pleaded guilty in a US court on Wednesday, June 26, after an argument with his brother Jess Margera (45). The consequence: a six-month suspended sentence. This averted a public hearing, so Margera does not have to appear in court again. His lawyer negotiated this deal with the responsible public prosecutor’s office.
Margera was accused of attacking his brother in April 2023 during a family visit near Philadelphia. Bam Margera was punched and threatened Jess with death. The punches also injured Jess’ eardrum, it is said. According to the indictment, Margera had previously been upset about an alleged text message from his brother that suggested he seek psychiatric treatment. Margera is said to have hit his brother several times and tried to kick down a bedroom door before the police were called.
Before the police arrived, Margera left the scene and was searched for by the authorities for several days before he turned himself in. The TV star initially pleaded “not guilty” after being accused of assault and threats. According to media reports, part of the deal not only includes a suspended sentence, but also consent to random drug tests. If Bam Margera fails one of these unannounced tests, he faces the possibility of his suspended sentence being converted into a prison sentence.
Bam Margera: This is what brother and mother say about the incident
At a hearing last year, Margera stated that the incident helped him to quit drugs and alcohol and to get sober. He is in therapy. This is one of the reasons why he is allowed to visit his 5-year-old son Phoenix again. His brother Jess also spoke at the hearing and described Bam as “a good guy when he’s not confused.” He had been displaying problematic behavior for 20 years and had sometimes stayed awake for days before his blackouts.
Their mother, April, also made a statement, defending her famous son: “He’s doing really well and we want him to move on and get this over with, we really do.” The whole family loves him and wants him to be well: “He’s been through a lot in his life, he’s had a lot of access and a lot of power and it’s hard to come down from that.”
