Last ride for the Braunau Cycling Days

Young riders will be pedalling again this year.

In recent years, the Braunau Cycling Days have established themselves as a fixture in the national and international cycling scene. This year, the traditional sporting event will take place for the 25th time from Saturday, August 31st to Sunday, September 1st – and also for the last time. “We have been organizing the Cycling Days for a quarter of a century. The dedicated officials in the organizing team have reached a certain age, which is why we started looking for successors. Unfortunately, this was not successful,” says long-time organizational manager Erwin Hörtl from the organizing association ARBÖ Radsport Braunau.

Despite this sad news for the Innviertel sports scene, Hörtl and his team want to offer both the athletes and the many cycling enthusiasts a special experience at the last event. In the usual form, the cycling days will open on Saturday with the children’s race. However, the focus is not on competition, but on fun. “It was and is important to us to get young people excited about cycling,” says Hörtl. Every participant in the children’s race will receive a medal and there will also be free ice cream. Every participant must wear a helmet.

After the junior competitions, the inner city criterium follows, including the Austrian championships for U23 women and men. At the same time, the open district championship for amateur cyclists also takes place. On Sunday, the starting signal will be given for the road race, which starts at Schlossberg in Ranshofen.
