A simple exercise to relieve back pain
The Spinal Pain Research Group at Macquarie University in Australia, conducted a test in which they analyzed a group of 701 adults for three years. During that period, they randomly divided the participants into two groups: One was a walking program and the other was a program with a physical therapist.both for a six-month trial.
The result was surprising. Walking groups showed positive results and had a longer average period before experiencing new pain compared to the other group.
Mark Hancock, Professor of physiotherapy from Macquarie University and who led this research highlighted: “We don’t know exactly why walking is so good at helping to prevent back pain, but it is likely to involve the combination of gentle oscillatory movements, loading and strengthening of the structures and muscles of the spine, relaxation and stress reliefand release of feel-good endorphins.”
Walking is one of the simplest exercises you can do. However, it is effective, free, and suitable for all ages, and it helps combat back pain.
