The director is preparing for the release of his sequel to Gladiator, the 2000 epic that won the Oscar for best film.
The director’s films Ridley Scott, Alien and Blade Runnerwere hits, but he says no one asked him to make sequels.

“I’m the author of two franchises. Most Hollywood directors – and certainly at my level – don’t let that kind of thing go,” he told Vanity Fair. “But I made Alien as my second film, so I didn’t have much choice. And Blade Runner was my third film. So I didn’t have a choice because I had very tough partners. It was kind of like ‘Welcome to Hollywood.'” He added: “They never told me or asked me [sobre las secuelas]. You can imagine I wasn’t happy”.


Instead of Scott, the sequel to Alien from 1979, released in 1986 and called AliensIt was directed by James CameronScott’s 1982 sequel to Blade Runner was directed by Denis Villeneuve; for the record, Scott thinks Villeneuve did a “good job.” Released in 2017, the film starred Ryan Gosling.

Scott is still involved in those franchises, though. He is an executive producer on the upcoming Amazon Prime series Blade Runner 2099 and produces Alien: Romulusa film set between the events of Alien and Aliens.
Scott returned to the director’s chair for the sequel to another of his highest-grossing films, Gladiator 2000. The film starring Russell Crowe was named the best film of the year at the Oscars.
Gladiator 2 will be released in theaters in November 2024.
