The Berlin punk rock band Die Ärzte is playing three concerts on the runway of the old Tempelhof airport. Now the logo is even emblazoned on the listed hangar.
The Berlin punk rock band Die Ärzte (“Noise”, “Schrei nach Liebe”, “Zu spät”) has temporarily taken over the old Tempelhof airport. On the gigantic hangar building built by the Nazis, the lettering “Berlin – DÄmpelhof” is clearly visible above the former departure area. For one day, the self-proclaimed “best band in the world” consisting of guitarist Farin Urlaub (60), drummer Bela B (61) and bassist Rodrigo Gonzalez (56) were allowed to change the lettering on the listed building. This Saturday, the two initial letters of the band’s name are said to be disappearing again.
Three concerts in “DÄmpelhof”
The airfield of “DÄmpelhof” is once again a playground for Die Ärzte. For the three concerts on August 23, 24 and 25, the band is again offering social tickets for 20 euros. Regular tickets at four times the price are only available for the last concert. Together with the “Labor Tempelhof”, the concerts are again to be organized as “climate and resource-positive events in the spirit of the circular economy”. The concerts will be played with green electricity, for example, and those who have drunk the water-saving beer made from leftover bread can use nutrient-recovering toilets.
“We all live on the same planet”
“We support the sustainability project “Labor Tempelhof” because, after all, we all live on the same planet – and we hope that the topic of climate and resource protection will quickly become the new normal,” said the band in a statement. “What better way to champion this than at concerts where everyone is having fun?” In addition, the idea of a consistent circular economy is an offer to be sustainable without making sacrifices. “How cool is that?” say Die Ärzte.
